Reading fans wrongly invade pitch

Reading supporters wrongly invade the pitch thinking that they had secured the final Championship playoff spot when it actually went to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Reading fans at the Madejski Stadium yesterday were fooled into thinking they had secured a spot in the Championship playoffs and invaded the pitch.

The Royals started the season's final day in the top six and just had to equal or better Brighton & Hove Albion's result against Nottingham Forest to ensure a spot in the playoffs.

Reading were held to a 2-2 draw by Burnley and thought that Brighton had snatched a 2-1 win at Forest until a late rumour spread through the stadium that Forest had equalised, sparking the celebrations above.

It wasn't true, though, and Reading had to settle for the agonising seventh spot after 46 games.
