Tjaronn Chery happy to be plying trade at Championship level

Tjaronn Chery insists that he is happy to take a longer route to Premier League stardom than compatriot Memphis Depay, who is already lighting up the top flight.

Tjaronn Chery has revealed that he opted to join Queens Park Rangers in order to secure regular playing time.

The Dutchman decided against a move to the Premier League, in contrast to close friend Memphis Depay, in the belief that he would be stuck on the bench.

After scoring twice in the Hoops' 4-2 win over Rotherham United on the weekend, Chery admitted that playing in the English top flight is something that is on his wishlist for the coming years.

"I know Memphis and we have spoken this season," Get West London quotes the 23-year-old as saying. "It is nice when players come from Holland and do well.

"For me the most important thing about coming to QPR is you have to play. If you go to the Premier League maybe you end up sitting on the bench you don't know.

"You have to begin somewhere when you are a football player and if you play well then maybe you go to the Premier League or you stay here and go to the Premier League with QPR. I knew I would play a lot of games and also win a lot of games with QPR."

Chery scored 15 goals in 34 appearances for Dutch side Groningen last season prior to sealing a move to West London.
