Middlesbrough announce Craig Hignett return as assistant to Aitor Karanka

Middlesbrough announce the return of Craig Hignett to the club as Aitor Karanka's assistant head coach.

Middlesbrough this evening announced the return of Craig Hignett to the club as assistant head coach.

The 44-year-old is poached from League Two club Hartlepool United, where he was assistant to Colin Cooper.

Hignett spent six years with Boro as a player between 1992 and 1998, scoring their first ever goal at current stadium the Riverside.

Hignett replaces Jamie Clapham, who stepped up to the assistant's role since Karanka joined the club in October and will now return to his previous role as coach of the Under-21 side.
