Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak reportedly emerges as a candidate to succeed the under-fire Hugo Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly earmarked Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as another possible successor to Hugo Lloris.

Lloris has been Spurs' undisputed number one since arriving from Lyon over 10 years ago, but the 36-year-old has come under criticism for his performances this season.

During Sunday's North London derby with Arsenal, Lloris made another high-profile error, deflecting Bukayo Saka's cross into his own net as the Gunners won 2-0.

The ex-France international has also entered the final 18 months of his deal with Antonio Conte's side, and given his age, it is highly unlikely that he will be offered a further extension.

Tottenham have been tipped to move for a host of shot-stoppers in place of Lloris, with Brentford's David Raya and Everton's Jordan Pickford both heavily linked with a switch to North London.

Now, the Evening Standard reports that Atletico shot-stopper Oblak is also of interest to the Lilywhites as his future with the Madrid giants continues to be called into question.

The Slovenia international is under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2028, having signed a new long-term contract last summer, but the report claims that he is open to a Premier League move.

However, Diego Simeone's side can play hardball in negotiations given Oblak's contract situation, and Manchester United are also understood to be keeping tabs on his future ahead of a possible exit for David de Gea.

Oblak left Benfica in 2014 to sign for Atletico Madrid, and he has been regarded as one of the world's best goalkeepers during his time in the Spanish capital, keeping 184 clean sheets in 378 appearances.

The 30-year-old - a four-time Slovenia Player of the Year - was named Atletico's Player of the Season in their 2020-21 La Liga title triumph, and he has also won the Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Supercopa de Espana with Los Rojiblancos.

During the 2022-23 season, Oblak has recorded nine clean sheets from 24 outings in all tournaments, wearing the captain's armband in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Levante in the Copa del Rey.

Meanwhile, Lloris has only kept five clean sheets in 18 Premier League games this term - conceding 25 goals - but Conte still hailed the 36-year-old as one of the best goalkeepers in the world following his mistake against Arsenal.

"In this situation it's always difficult. I think that it's not positive to be focused on only one situation or two situation. Football I know is this and sometimes you can do positive and save many situations positively but honestly I consider Hugo one of the best keepers in the world and it can happen," Conte told the press after the match.

"It can happen that sometimes you can make a mistake. For sure when there is the mistake of the keeper it is more visible. Hugo for us is a one of the players who is really important for the dressing room, for his personality because we are talking about a player who is one of the best keepers in the world."

Lloris is in line to make his 441st appearance for Tottenham in Thursday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad, where he could keep a landmark 150th clean sheet for the North London club.
