Tom Heaton reportedly wants to challenge David De Gea and Dean Henderson for top spot between the posts for Manchester United, with his contract expiring on June 30.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton is reportedly ready to challenge David De Gea and Dean Henderson for the number one jersey at Manchester United.

It is believed that the 35-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at Old Trafford, with an option of a one-year extension, and he will return to the club where he began his career.

Heaton's contract at Villa Park expires on June 30 and he has his eyes set on the number one spot for Man United, where he started as a youth player in 2002 but never made a first-team appearance for the Red Devils.

Sky Sports News reports that it is unlikely both De Gea and Henderson will be at Old Trafford next season, with Henderson claiming that he will want an exit if he is not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-choice keeper.

The Spanish goalkeeper missed the all-important penalty in Man United's shootout with Villarreal in the Europa League final, resulting in another trophyless campaign for the Red Devils.

Heaton has been second choice for Dean Smith this season, behind Emiliano Martinez, and he has not featured for the Claret and Blues since the last campaign having struggled with injuries.
