Joleon Lescott questions whether Manchester United would be the right club for Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish.

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish should consider rejecting a summer switch to Manchester United as the Red Devils are no longer an automatic Champions League team, according to Joleon Lescott.

Grealish is allegedly a leading target for United ahead of this summer's transfer window, and the Englishman is believed to favour a move to Old Trafford above any other club.

However, former Manchester City centre-back Lescott has urged the 24-year-old to think carefully before agreeing to join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side due to their current struggles.

"When you look at the spectrum of teams, Manchester United are still a big club but in terms of Jack Grealish's ability, if he leaves Aston Villa he's going to want to play Champions League and that's not guaranteed at Man United, even in the future," Lescott told Grand National.

"I would love to see him test himself in the highest level because I think he's capable of playing at real heights. He's proven that he can really perform in a team that's been struggling this season. In terms of if he was going to move to United, it would obviously be a great move for him because it is Man United.

"But, in terms of how he can test himself against the very best, is he going to be able to do that at Man United as they're not guaranteed Champions League football?"

Grealish has been in impressive form for Dean Smith's side during the 2019-20 campaign, scoring nine times and registering seven assists in 27 appearances in all competitions.

United, meanwhile, are currently eighth in the Premier League table, six points off fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of the meeting between the two sides on Monday night.

The 20-time English champions face a battle to qualify for next season's Champions League via their league position but would secure a spot if they were to win the Europa League.
