Barcelona are reportedly unable to register new signings Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie due to their financial problems.

Both Christensen and Kessie were officially unveiled by the Catalan giants on Monday, after joining from Chelsea and AC Milan respectively on free transfers.

However, Cope reports that Barca cannot register the duo ahead of the new season as their wage bill is currently above the required limit.

The report adds that they have already made significant reductions to their wage bill with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Dani Alves, Adama Traore and more recently Ousmane Dembele leaving the club.

Barca, however, are still over La Liga's wage cap and are required to make further cuts before they can register any new signings.

The Catalan club's financial issues are also believed to be holding up a potential sale of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United, as they still owe the midfielder around £13.7m in basic wages and £3.4m in bonuses, which was agreed during the coronavirus pandemic.

It remains to be seen whether Barca will be able to pursue other transfer targets this summer including Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Leeds United attacker Raphinha.
