Louis van Gaal: 'I'm pleased David de Gea will be at Man United for many years'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says that he is happy that David de Gea will be at Old Trafford for "many years to come" after signing a new contract.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that he is "delighted" that David de Gea will be at Old Trafford for "many years to come" after the goalkeeper signed a new contract.

The Spaniard has put pen to paper on a four-year deal, just 10 days after his proposed move to Real Madrid fell through.

"I am absolutely delighted David has signed a new contract," Van Gaal told the club's official website. "He is one of the best goalkeepers in world football. I am very pleased that he will be part of the team for many years to come.

"David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club's Player of the Year for the last two seasons. He is a popular player who is keen to learn and enhance his game. At such a young age for a goalkeeper, he has many years ahead of him."

De Gea has not been in the squad for any of United's six games of the season so far due to the speculation, but could resume his role for Saturday's clash against arch rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
