Manchester United on best FA Cup run since 1912 after Liverpool win

Manchester United's victory over Liverpool means that they have now won eight consecutive FA Cup home games for the first time since 1912.

A stunning free-kick from substitute Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United victory in a thrilling FA Cup fourth round tie with old rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Liverpool took the lead through Mohamed Salah, who then equalised after Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford had struck for the hosts either side of half time.

But it was United's main man Fernandes who score his 16th goal of the season to send Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in the fifth round, where they will face West Ham United.

Manchester United have now won each of their last eight home games in the FA Cup; only from 1908 to 1912 have the Red Devils had a better winning run on home soil in the competition.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's woes continued as they became the first reigning Premier League champions to be eliminated from the FA Cup as early as the fourth round since Manchester City back in the 2014-15 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp's side have won once in their last seven games in all competitions since their seven-goal thrashing of Crystal Palace before Christmas. The Reds are now to prepare for Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur, who they face next on Thursday evening.
