Mark Lawrenson: Manchester United could win Premier League title "by stealth"

Mark Lawrenson believes that Manchester United could win the Premier League title "by stealth" this term.

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Manchester United could win the Premier League title "by stealth".

The ex-Reds centre-back stated that Louis van Gaal's team are not the most exciting side in the division but admitted that they have a good chance to lift their 21st title when the season ends in May.

He told BBC Sport: "Yes Manchester United are boring to watch but they have stopped conceding goals and are up there in the table. They could win the league by stealth, I think they have a really good chance.

"I don't think Louis van Gaal will stay until the end of his contract though - which runs out at the end of next season.

"Once the press really starts to have a go, he'll be off to Portugal - that's where he's always said he's going to go once he finishes this job."

United started the afternoon inside the top four of the Premier League but can go level on points with Manchester City with victory over Bournemouth.
