England boss Gareth Southgate is in contention to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, according to a report.

England boss Gareth Southgate is reportedly viewed as a leading candidate to become Manchester United's next manager should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lose his position at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is still believed to have the support of the United hierarchy despite overseeing the club's worst start to a league campaign for 30 years.

The Red Devils are fifth in the Premier League table but have lost their last two matches, including a 2-0 home defeat to Burnley on Wednesday night.

According to the Daily Mail, the 20-time English champions will consider a change of management if results do not improve, and Southgate is viewed as a candidate to take over after Euro 2020.

The report claims that United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been impressed by Southgate's work with England since the 49-year-old took charge of the national team in 2016.

United fans are allegedly planning a mass walkout during the Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 1 in protest against Woodward and the club's owners.
