Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier receives first senior England call-up

Eric Dier receives his first senior England call-up for friendlies against Spain and France.

Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier has received his first senior call-up to the England squad for friendlies against Spain and France.

The 21-year-old, who has been a regular feature in Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 side, has impressed manager Roy Hodgson with his midfield performances for Spurs this season.

Dier's teammate Dele Alli has kept his spot in the senior side after winning two caps last month, while Everton defender John Stones and Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph return to the squad after overcoming their respective injuries.

Due to Theo Walcott's current spell on the treatment table, Hodgson has named three strikers - Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy.

The Three Lions will take on Spain in Alicante on November 13 before facing Euro 2016 hosts France at Wembley four days later.

England 23-man squad for upcoming friendlies:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke City), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley)

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea City), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
