Arsenal's chief doctor Gary O'Driscoll is set to leave the club this summer in order to join Manchester United, according to a report.

Arsenal's Head of Medical Gary O'Driscoll is reportedly set to leave the club to join Manchester United.

The 52-year-old joined the Gunners as a club doctor in February 2009 and was promoted to the club's Head of Medical in 2017 - a role that he has continued to serve under Mikel Arteta.

In that time, O'Driscoll has become a highly respected figure at Arsenal and said to have turned down several opportunities to move elsewhere, including in 2020 where he snubbed Liverpool at the last minute.

However, The Athletic reports that O'Driscoll is on the verge of departing the Emirates Stadium after a 14-year spell, and the 52-year-old will join Man United's medical team.

O'Driscoll - who was born in Manchester - is believed to be keen on a return to the North-West in order to be closer to his family, and his switch is expected to be completed later this summer.

O'Driscoll and Arsenal are said to be going about the process "amicably" as the Gunners search for a successor, but the news has been described as a "blow" to the North London club.

Prior to joining Arsenal, O'Driscoll served as team doctor for the British and Irish Lions - touring to New Zealand and South Africa - as well as taking on the same job for the Ireland national rugby team.

The 52-year-old's imminent departure sees Arsenal continue their staff shake-up after it was announced on Thursday that assistant manager Steve Round had left his post by mutual consent.
