Erling Haaland becomes the fastest player to score 50 goals in Premier League history, taking just 48 games to do so after scoring against Liverpool.

Erling Haaland has smashed the record for the quickest time to reach 50 Premier League goals by scoring in Manchester City's clash with Liverpool.

A goal on 27 minutes to put City ahead in their top-of-the-table clash with their recent title rivals saw Haaland obliterate the record previously held by Andy Cole.

Haaland broke the record for goals in a 38-game season in his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, by netting 36 on their way to the title last season.

In just 13 appearances of the new campaign, the Norwegian goal machine has added another 14 to his remarkable tally, to hit 50 in the Premier League faster than any other player.

Haaland closed in on the record by netting braces against both Manchester United and Chelsea before the international break.

An opening-day brace against Burnley was quickly followed by his first hat-trick of the season at home to Fulham, which took him to six goals after just four games.

Haaland also scored twice on the opening day of last season in his Premier League debut away at West Ham United, before going on to score four league hat-tricks across the campaign.

His most notable came in a Manchester derby thrashing, while Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers all suffered the same fate at the Etihad.

The 48 games which it has taken for Haaland to reach 50 goals comfortably beats the record held by Cole, who needed 17 games more to set the record in the 1990s.

Cole took 65 matches to reach the 50-goal mark, scoring his first 43 for Newcastle United, before racing to the landmark with another seven after his move to Manchester United in 1995.

Former Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is next on the list, scoring the first 50 of his record 260 in 66 matches while at Blackburn Rovers, reaching the tally early in the 1994-95 season, when they went on to win the title.

Ruud van Nistelrooy took similarly quick time to reach 50 goals, doing so in just 68 games after joining Man United from PSV Eindhoven in 2001, winning his only league title with the club the following season.

Mohamed Salah, also on the pitch for opponents Liverpool when Haaland broke the record, is next on the list, after taking 72 matches to reach the feat.

Another player synonymous with his time in the red of Liverpool joins Salah on the same record, as Fernando Torres also took 72 games to hit 50 goals after joining the club in 2007.
