How Manchester City could line up against West Ham United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for Wednesday night's Premier League clash with West Ham United after suffering injuries to key players at Wembley.

Having clinched leg one of a possible quadruple with victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, Manchester City will switch their focus back to the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The champions host West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium having been knocked off top spot by Liverpool at the weekend, although the gap between the two sides is now only one point.

Wednesday's contest comes just three days after Man City were forced to go through extra time and penalties at Wembley, though, and injuries also took their toll on Pep Guardiola's side at the weekend.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the hosts could line up.

Possible MNC XI vs. WHU

Out: Fernandinho (groin), Aymeric Laporte (muscle), Claudio Bravo (Achilles)
Doubtful: Benjamin Mendy (knee), Gabriel Jesus (hamstring), John Stones (groin), Fabian Delph (illness)

Guardiola is the last manager in the Premier League who can complain about squad depth, but even his resources could be stretched following injuries to Fernandinho and Aymeric Laporte at Wembley.

The City boss suggested in his post-match press conference that both could be sidelined for at least four games, with Fernandinho seemingly a particularly big loss considering his absence earlier in the campaign coincided with back-to-back shock defeats.

Ilkay Gundogan looks likely to replace the Brazilian in the holding midfield role, while Vincent Kompany could come in for Laporte with John Stones still struggling to overcome a groin problem.

Guardiola will no doubt want to rotate after going the distance on Sunday, but with six outfield players either injured or doubtful he may be forced to field the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Sergio Aguero once again.

Raheem Sterling and the relentless Bernardo Silva may be rested with Leroy Sane and Riyad Mahrez waiting in the wings, though, while Danilo is an option to replace Kyle Walker at right-back.
