Manchester City players were reportedly called in for a crisis meeting on Saturday following news of the club's European ban.

Manchester City players were reportedly called in for a crisis meeting on Saturday following the news that the club had been banned from European competition for the next two years.

On Friday night, it was revealed that the Citizens had been handed a two-season Champions League suspension for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

According to The Telegraph, text and WhatsApp messages were sent out shortly after the news broke to request that the players attend an urgent meeting on Saturday afternoon.

City's chief executive Ferran Soriano is believed to have led the talks as the players were informed of the club's plans moving forward in the wake of the shock announcement.

The Premier League champions have already revealed that they will appeal the decision, although it remains to be seen whether the Manchester giants can overturn the suspension.

City, who have also been fined £25m as part of the punishment, will next be in action against West Ham United in the Premier League on February 19.

Pep Guardiola's side will then travel to Leicester City next weekend before visiting Real Madrid for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League clash on February 26.
