Preview: Lorient vs. Bordeaux - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Ligue 1 clash between Lorient and Bordeaux, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Lorient had their six-game unbeaten streak broken at the weekend after being defeated by Marseille and they shall now be looking to get back on track when they host Bordeaux.

The visitors have struggled so far this season, winning just one game, and they find themselves sitting two points above the relegation zone.

Lorient had put together a strong run heading into this past weekend, with six games on the bounce without a defeat helping them climb up the league table.

However, that all came crashing down on Saturday when they travelled to face Marseille, who comfortably beat them 4-1 even though an Armand Lauriente penalty provided an early lead in the 13th minute.

The Olympians fired back confidently, though, drawing level in the first half before scoring another three in the second to put the game past the visitors.

Christophe Pelissier's team now return home where they are currently undefeated, having only conceded twice in their first four fixtures at the Stade du Moustoir.

After their first season back in Ligue 1 saw them finish in 16th place during the 2020-21 campaign, Lorient already seem set to make major improvements as they sit 12th, with a victory having the potential to take them as high as third.

Bordeaux have struggled so far this season, which is why they are currently just two points above the relegation zone with only a single victory to their name.

That win came back in the middle of September when they defeated St Etienne 2-1 thanks to a brace from Hwang Ui-jo, and since that point, they have been unable to win again.

However, it has been an improved period for the club as they have drawn three out of the four subsequent games, building some momentum for themselves.

Their most recent outing saw them share the spoils with Nantes as Ui-jo once again found the back of the net for his team, only for Pedro Chirivella to cancel it out with an equaliser.

The last time the two teams met, it was Lorient who came out on top with a 4-1 victory, and if that result was repeated, there is a chance that Bordeaux could end up in the relegation zone.

Team News

Terem Moffi was back in training last week for Lorient, but he was unable to get back to full fitness in time for the Marseille fixture, yet he might be an option this time around.

However Adrian Grbic was able to return to the squad for the 4-1 loss, featuring from the bench after a spell out of the team due to an ankle problem.

Fabien Lemoine will once again be available following his suspension, but Jeremy Morel is likely to miss out because of a thigh issue.

Bordeaux opted to shift to a back four at the weekend, which is something they could continue to do to provide further defensive cover throughout the team.

The club was able to welcome back Laurent Koscielny following his ankle injury while Alberth Ellis also made his return, although he appeared from the bench.

Josh Maja missed out on the recent draw with Nantes, but he could be available for this particular fixture if he can get back to full fitness.

Lorient possible starting lineup:
Nardi; Le Goff, Jenz, Laporte, Mendes, Carioca; Le Fee, Abergel, Monconduit; Lauriente, Diarra

Bordeaux possible starting lineup:
Costil; Kwateng, Medioub, Koscielny, Mangas; Otavio, Dilrosun, Onana, Ajil; Ui-jo, Mara

We say: Lorient 2-2 Bordeaux

Lorient are further up the league table and therefore head into this game as the favourites; however, this will not be a simple fixture as Bordeaux have been picking up consistent results as of late.

Because of that, this game could result in a draw between the teams as each club looks to get another point on the board in a fixture that is bound to produce goals.
