Rangers complete the signing of centre-back Ben Davies from Liverpool on a four-year deal for a fee believed to be worth around £4m.

Rangers have completed the signing of centre-back Ben Davies from Liverpool on a four-year contract.

The 26-year-old, who has joined the Gers for a fee believed to be worth around £4m, has been identified as a replacement for Calvin Bassey, who is on the verge of completing a £22.9m move to Ajax.

Davies has become Giovanni van Bronckhorst's sixth signing of the summer window after the arrivals of John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman.

Speaking to the club's official website on his arrival at Ibrox, Davies said: "I am very excited to join Rangers and I am really looking forward to taking this next step in my career. It's a huge club with big ambitions and I can't wait to get started."

Van Bronckhorst added: "I would like to welcome Ben to our squad and I am delighted he has joined the club. He is a strong defender with great qualities and will further add to our options in that area."

Sporting Director Ross Wilson said: "I am delighted Ben has chosen Rangers as the next step in his career and Giovanni and our coaching staff are looking forward to working with him as we head into the new season."

Davies began his career with Preston North End and spent eight years at Deepdale, playing in both the Championship and League One.

The centre-back made 145 appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions between 2013 and 2021 before linking up with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in February last year.

The Reds opted to spend around £500,000 on Davies midway through the 2020-21 campaign at a time when centre-back trio Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were all sidelined with long-term injuries.

However, the Englishman failed to make a single senior appearance for Liverpool in any competition and spent last season on loan with Championship outfit Sheffield United.

Davies is now hoping to gain regular first-team football under Van Bronckhorst at Rangers, and will be competing with the likes of Souttar, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Nikola Katic and Leon King for a place in the staring lineup.

The Cumbrian-born defender could make his competitive debut for the Gers in their opening Scottish Premiership fixture of the new season away against Livingston on July 30.
