Leeds United agree a deal to sign Barcelona and Manchester City-linked Mateo Joseph Fernandez from Espanyol in January, according to a report.

Leeds United have reportedly fended off competition from several top European clubs to sign Espanyol starlet Mateo Joseph Fernandez.

The 18-year-old is yet to make his debut for the senior team and is due to become a free agent at the end of the 2021-22 season.

Fernandez's impressive performances at youth level supposedly led to interest from clubs of Champions League calibre, with Barcelona, Liverpool and Manchester City all linked with the teenager.

However, the Daily Mail claims that Leeds have won the race for his signature, and the attacker will join the Whites on New Year's Day.

The report adds that a compensation package has been agreed with Espanyol, who are prepared to part ways with Fernandez for less than his £1.3m release clause.
