West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Pardew says that signing Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool is a "big coup" for the club.

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Pardew has expressed gratitude towards Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge for joining the Baggies on loan.

The 28-year-old will play at The Hawthorns for the rest of the season after falling down the pecking order at Anfield.

The striker scored three goals and created as many assists in 14 appearances in all competitions, but only five of those outings were starts.

Pardew believes that Sturridge will boost the West Brom team as they attempt to steer clear of the relegation zone and continue progressing in the FA Cup.

"I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well," the West Brom boss told the club's official website.

"This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say 'thank you' to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in League and Cup. He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts."

The Baggies knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup on Saturday in a 3-2 victory at Anfield.
