Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has won the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award.

The 32-year-old picks up the accolade after helping Los Blancos to a third straight Champions League title and inspiring his nation to the World Cup final this year.

Modric has won the award ahead of former Real teammate and Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, now at Juventus, and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Egypt.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man received 313 points in the voting to finish ahead of three-time winner Ronaldo, who scored 44 goals in 44 games for Real last season and picked up 223 points.

Salah came third on 134 points after a fruitful debut first season at Anfield, having scored 44 times in all competitions as the Reds finished fourth in the Premier League and came second in the Champions League.

A jury of 80 coaches from last season's Champions League and Europa League group stages, as well as one journalist from each of UEFA's 55 member associations, chose their top three players.
