Mark Lawrenson: 'Liverpool on the up'

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that the team is starting to show that they are still capable of securing a top-four finish.

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that the team is showing signs of improvement following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The Reds earned a share of the spoils against the Gunners at Anfield yesterday afternoon thanks to an injury-time equaliser from Martin Skrtel.

After enduring a difficult start to the season, Lawrenson believes that the Merseysiders have shown in recent weeks that they are capable of securing a Champions League spot.

"There are signs of the green shoots of recovery," he told BBC Sport. "In terms of reaching fourth position, it is not impossible by any means. There is still no [Daniel] Sturridge as yet and he'll come back within the New Year and that will also improve the team."

Liverpool continue their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day when they travel to Burnley.
