Steven Gerrard: 'No plans to retire'

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard insists that he has no plans to retire, having seen his side go into the final day of the season as title challengers for the first time.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has insisted that he has no plans to retire just yet, having seen his side go to the final day of the season as title challengers for the first time in his career.

The Reds missed out to Manchester City by two points this afternoon despite coming from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at Anfield, with Gerrard grabbing the assists for both of his side's goals.

The 33-year-old was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award for his performances during Liverpool's unexpected title challenge, and he is confident that he is capable of playing at least one more season at the highest level.

"I can certainly play at this level for another year, for sure because I feel so fit and so strong - even though I'm getting on," the England skipper told reporters.

"But the idea for me is to carry on until my legs pack in. I'll know when the day comes but it's not here just yet."

Gerrard scored 14 goals for Liverpool this season.
