Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk plays down concerns of a serious injury after going down with an ankle knock in the Netherlands' victory over Turkey on Tuesday.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has allayed any concerns of a serious injury after a scare during the Netherlands' clash with Turkey on Tuesday night.

The former Southampton man completed the full 90 minutes of the Oranje's 6-1 World Cup Qualifying victory but grimaced while clutching his ankle during the encounter.

Van Dijk has regained his rightful place in Liverpool's backline after recovering from a devastating ACL rupture, and the centre-back has reassured supporters that his latest issue is not serious.

Speaking to the press after the game, Van Dijk said: "I'm fine, luckily. I'm already over it. Maybe because I am so big, they think I am acting, because when I go down, I go down in quite a slow way."

Memphis Depay struck a hat-trick alongside goals from Davy Klaassen, Guus Til and Donyell Malen in a dominant win for the Netherlands on the night, with Louis van Gaal's side level with Norway at the top Group G in World Cup qualifying.

Van Dijk has played every minute of Premier League football so far for Liverpool this term and will aim to continue that trend against Leeds United on Sunday.
