Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is forced to withdraw from the Guinea national team due to a knee injury.

Liverpool have been dealt a blow as Naby Keita has suffered a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was set to join up with the Guinea national team for the upcoming international break but has been forced to pull out of the squad as a result of his issue.

As revealed by the Liverpool Echo, Keita, who featured for the first hour of the Reds' FA Cup meeting with Nottingham Forest, has been sidelined, with Jurgen Klopp's side awaiting a verdict on how long he will be out for ahead of a busy April schedule.

He was substituted with the quarter-final remaining goalless before Diogo Jota made the breakthrough in the 78th minute, securing Liverpool's progression to the final four, with Manchester City awaiting for a clash at Wembley.

Such a knock is the midfielder's 15th setback since arriving at Anfield in 2018, having been forced out of 54 games thus far during his stay in Merseyside.

However, the 2021-22 season had previously been largely injury-free for the Guinean, who has made 15 appearances in the Premier League alongside five in the Champions League so far this term.

Keita will now miss international contests against South Africa and Zambia in the coming days.
