Preview: Leyton Orient vs. Newport County - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League Two clash between Leyton Orient and Newport County, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Newport County will be aiming to clinch a third consecutive victory when they make the trip to the English capital to face Leyton Orient on Tuesday.

The hosts, meanwhile, will be looking to end a three-game winless run as they bid to rekindle their League Two playoff hopes.

Match preview

The O's finished the weekend in 13th position after playing out a goalless draw with Port Vale on Saturday.

As a result of that stalemate, Kenny Jackett's side are nine points adrift of the playoffs, although they do possess a couple of games in hand over Mansfield Town, who sit in seventh place.

Despite losing just five league games this term, Leyton Orient's inability to convert draws into victories leaves their playoff hopes dwindling.

Jackett has seen 11 of his team's league matches end level - only Bradford City have drawn more games in League Two - and what will also be a concern for the Orient boss is that his side are now winless in their last three league outings.

Despite currently experiencing a poor run of form, the O's have lost just two home league matches this season and after keeping seven clean sheets in their 12 League Two encounters, they will be hopeful of collecting a positive result on Tuesday.

In contrast to their hosts, Newport County enter the midweek contest in a rich vein of form after collecting back-to-back victories.

Following a comfortable 4-0 victory against Harrogate Town in their previous encounter, the Exiles claimed another clean sheet on Saturday with a 1-0 away win over Scunthorpe United.

With neither side able to find an opener in the first half, Newport County hit the front in the 56th minute thanks to a Courtney Baker-Richardson strike, and that effort proved enough to guide the visitors to a narrow win.

Another away trip awaits James Rowberry's side on Tuesday, and they head into the encounter in fifth place, just three points adrift of the automatic promotion spots.

Having lost once in their eight league away trips, Newport will believe that they can return to Wales with at least a point.

Team News

Craig Clay is expected to miss the rest of Leyton Orient's season with the midfielder set to undergo surgery on a knee ligament issue.

The O's have been without Theo Archibald for their last three games, but the Lincoln City loanee could return to the matchday squad for Tuesday's contest,

Dan Moss made his debut for the hosts on Saturday, and he is set to retain his place in the starting XI.

As for Newport, Lewis Collins missed their weekend fixture and remains a doubt for Tuesday's contest.

Timmy Abraham is also doubtful for the visitors, although Matty Dolan and Robbie Willmott are available after returning to the squad on Saturday.

After being among the substitutes against Scunthorpe, Dolan and Willmott could come into the starting lineup for the midweek encounter.

Leyton Orient possible starting lineup:
Vigouroux; Ogie, Mitchell, Beckles; Moss, Kyprianou, Pratley, Wood; Smyth, Drinan, Smith

Newport County possible starting lineup:
Townsend; Pask, Dolan, Demetriou; Norman, Azaz, Willmott, Cooper, Haynes; Telford, Baker-Richardson

We say: Leyton Orient 1-1 Newport County

Leyton Orient have avoided defeat in six of their last seven competitive meetings with Newport County, but with the Exiles faring well in the league this term, we think that they have enough quality to hold their hosts to a draw on Tuesday.
