Fabio Capello dismisses Inter Milan, AC Milan comparisons

Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello dampens talk comparing his Rossoneri side of the early 1990s to that of Roberto Mancini's current Inter Milan outfit.

Former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello has moved to dampen talk suggesting that the current Inter Milan side are showing the same hallmarks as his Scudetto winners of the 1993-94 campaign.

Capello took charge of the Rossoneri in 1991 and was able to take the title a couple of years later, when he produced an AC side that scored just 36 goals and conceded 15 on the way to winning Serie A across a 34-game season.

Some sections of the press have insinuated that Roberto Mancini's Inter team are showing similar characteristics at the moment, as they top the table after winning eight of their 12 games by a single goal, but Capello has insisted that these comparisons are wide of the mark.

"That year (1993-94), my Milan had come off three consecutive seasons in which they'd played in the Champions League," the coach told Gazzetta dello Sport

"And don't forget that we were missing [star striker Marco] Van Basten for a lot of time. To compare these two groups doesn't seem right to me. Inter are a team that is growing.

"Milan in those days had a great defensive strength, a concept born of [former coach Nils] Liedholm and further improved by Arrigo Sacchi."

Capello is currently without a managerial position having been sacked by Russia in the summer.
