France boss Didier Deschamps signs contract extension

The French Football Association reveals that Didier Deschamps has agreed to stay on as manager of the national side for the next qualifying campaign.

Didier Deschamps has agreed to stay on as France manager until the end of the 2020 European Championship campaign.

The 49-year-old guided Les Blues to the final of Euro 2016 on home soil and topped Group A qualifying en route to next summer's World Cup finals.

Former Monaco, Juventus and Marseille coach Deschamps, in charge of the national side since succeeding Laurent Blanc in 2012, will now stay on for another few years.

French Football President Noel Le Graet told reporters: "I had lunch with [Deschamps] last week, we talked about the possibility of working together through to the end of Euro 2020.

"I gave him eight days to think it over. We had lunch again and we came to an agreement. Didier Deschamps will continue as our national team coach until 2020."

Deschamps also oversaw France's previous World Cup campaign, which ended at the hands of Germany at the quarter-final stage.
