Everton boss Roberto Martinez looking to seize the initiative

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is adamant that his side are prepared to capitalise on the hectic festive fixture list to surge up the Premier League.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that his side are ready to take the initiative over the hectic festive schedule to rise up the Premier League.

The Toffees play five matches in December and currently sit in the middle of the table, but are just five points off the pace of Tottenham Hotspur in the final European spot.

Martinez is adamant that he and his players are prepared to take advantage of the fixture list to move themselves into contention for a place in Europe next season.

"December is the most significant month in terms of competing for 15 points in such a short period of time," Martinez told the club's official website.

"That's the focus we have as a football club. The fans have been enjoying the style that we have been playing but we will never stop wanting to improve, to get better and promoting that competition for places.

"That way we can be an exciting team to watch but also one that can win consistently."

Everton face Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Monday.
