Everton 'to offer Southampton boss Ronald Koeman £6m-a-year contract'

Everton are reportedly willing to pay Ronald Koeman £6m a year to be their new manager, which is more than double Southampton's offer.

Everton are reportedly hoping to lure Ronald Koeman away from Southampton by offering the Dutchman a £6m-a-year contract.

The 53-year-old was swiftly installed as a candidate for the position at Goodison Park following Roberto Martinez's dismissal just before the end of the season.

Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is ready to spend big this summer, not only on new signings, but a new manager as well.

According to The Mirror, Southampton are willing to give Koeman a new two-year contract worth £5m, but Everton are prepared to more than double that offer.

Koeman is not the Toffees' only target, though, as reports claim that the Merseyside outfit will hold talks with nine contenders for the job.

Former manager David Moyes is expected to be contacted, while recently-departed Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is believed to have already held talks with the Premier League club.

As for Koeman, Southampton's executive director of football Les Reed recently claimed that negotiations between the club and manager have been progressing "very positively".
