UK sports minister 'concerned' by bung allegations in English football

UK sports minister Tracey Crouch says that the allegations surrounding football managers in England are "very concerning".

UK sports minister Tracey Crouch has admitted that the allegations surrounding football managers in England are "very concerning".

Sam Allardyce left his role as England manager last night after he was secretly filmed by The Telegraph appearing to explain how to "get around" the Football Association's transfer third-party ownership rules.

The newspaper has also accused eight Premier League managers of being open to accepting bungs - an unauthorised payment to help secure a deal.

"The integrity of sport is absolutely paramount and we have been clear that we expect the highest standards of governance and transparency from sports governing bodies, here in the UK and on the international stage," Sky Sports News quotes Crouch as saying.

"In this context, the recent allegations regarding English football are very concerning and we will be discussing the matter with the football authorities. All the evidence presented to them must be investigated fully and we stand ready to assist in any way we can."

Allardyce spent just 67 days in charge of the England national team.
