Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly giving consideration to making an approach for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah as a potential signing ahead of the closure of the summer transfer window.

Spurs have already enjoyed a hugely productive period when it comes to incomings with six fresh faces being added to the first-team squad.

Head coach Antonio Conte has acknowledged himself that the club do not plan on being reckless when it comes to their spending on new signings.

However, with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso having departed on loan over the past week, more room has been created in Conte's squad and on the wage bill.

According to the Evening Standard, that may lead to Spurs making an approach for Chalobah, a player that Conte knows from his days at Stamford Bridge.

While Chalobah did not make a senior appearance under Conte, the Italian selected the then-academy player in his squad for the 2018 FA Cup final.

That show of faith back then will likely play some part in Spurs now contemplating whether they should attempt to sign the versatile Englishman before the start of September.

Although the 23-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, he has remained as an unused substitute during Chelsea's opening two Premier League fixtures in 2022-23.

That is despite the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, while at least one more option for the backline will arrive over the next 12 days.

Chalobah is now seemingly considering his options with Inter Milan having been linked with the former England Under-21 international earlier this week.

With four years remaining on his contract, Chelsea are in a strong position with regards to his future, with a loan exit the most likely solution if Chalobah pushes for an opportunity elsewhere.

Furthermore, Chelsea have famously had minimal transfer dealings with Spurs in the past, the only switch in clubs being that of Carlo Cudicini to their London rivals on a free transfer.

As well as Thomas Tuchel not being willing to give the green light to an exit until a replacement is found, Spurs already have six central-defensive options.
