Argentine defender Nicolas Tagliafico criticises Ajax for not allowing him to complete "a dream" move to Barcelona.

Nicolas Tagliafico has criticised Ajax for not allowing him to complete "a dream" move to Barcelona during the January transfer window.

The Catalan giants are believed to have pushed to sign the Argentina international in the final stages of the winter market, only to be denied the chance to secure his services by the defender's Dutch club.

Tagliafico has said that Ajax 'did not help him' secure a switch to Camp Nou, with the 29-year-old worried that he has missed his chance to join Xavi's side.

"They have their reasons but it's a shame," Tagliafico told AS.

"I feel that opportunities cannot be missed and this was a unique opportunity, being able to go to a club like Barca. For me it was a dream opportunity and they didn't help me in the end."

Tagliafico, who was also linked with Chelsea during the January window, has scored twice and registered one assist in 15 appearances for Ajax during the 2021-22 campaign.

Barcelona are believed to be keen to bring a new left-back to the club to provide competition for Jordi Alba and could now switch their attention to Valencia's Jose Gaya this summer.
