Neil Warnock: Newcastle United penalty miss "was poetic justice"

Warnock: Penalty miss

Neil Warnock was glad to see Kenedy miss a penalty as he does not believe that the winger should have been on the field, while also questioning why the pen was awarded.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has described Kenedy's late penalty miss for Newcastle United in this afternoon's 0-0 draw as "poetic justice".

The Chelsea loanee capped off a poor individual display with a missed spot kick in the sixth minute of added time at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Kenedy is facing a retrospective ban after appearing to kick out at home debutant Victor Camarasa, but Newcastle were later reduced to 10 men as substitute Isaac Hayden saw red for scything down Josh Murphy from behind.

Warnock believes that justice was done with the late penalty, awarded after the ball hit skipper Sean Morrison on the hand, as he does not believe Craig Pawson should have pointed to the spot.

"Sometimes you don't get what you deserve. The lad Kenedy shouldn't have been on the pitch. It was straight red, but I never saw it," he told Sky Sports News.

"Regarding the penalty, Morrison's hand is outside the box and his body is inside. Regarding the penalty miss, I thought it was poetic justice.

"I've not seen Hayden's challenge on Murphy back yet. In all fairness to Craig Pawson I didn't see the kick out by Kenedy."

Etheridge has now saved penalties in successive matches, having also kept out Bournemouth's Callum Wilson last weekend.
