Joey Barton pens one-year deal with Burnley

Burnley confirm the signing of former Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle United and Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton on a free transfer.

Burnley have confirmed the signing of former Queens Park Rangers captain Joey Barton on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who made 28 appearances for QPR last season, left Loftus Road this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.

Clarets manager Sean Dyche said in a statement: "I'm delighted that we have Joey on board. He was very respectful when speaking about our club at the end of last season and during the summer.

"We had many conversations and he made it clear he was very interested in what we are about and that coming here was something he would consider."

Barton, who has also played for Manchester City and Newcastle United, has penned a one-year deal at Turf Moor.
