Burnley manager Sean Dyche says that he will continue to play in a manner that he feels works best for his side, having played out successive goalless draws.

Sean Dyche has defended Burnley's "effective" style of play ahead of the second leg of their Europa League third-round qualifier against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Clarets held out for a goalless draw in the opening 90 minutes of the tie, before recording another stalemate in Sunday's Premier League meeting with Southampton.

Burnley had just 42% of the ball in Istanbul and failed to get in a single shot on target, but Dyche is unwilling to change his ethos on the back of a successful campaign in 2017-18.

"The football we want to play is effective football," he told reporters at his pre-match press conference. "I think there would be a different view after the Southampton game, if I chose to be that worried about it.

"People have got to be successful in football, that is what I think. If that means the ball has got to go on top of their centre-half then that is what we will do.

"We are trying to evolve into a side that can hurt teams in many different ways. It is not easy. In some ways it is more complex to offer different styles."

Burnley's two shots in total in last week's first leg was their fewest since March 2012 in a Championship match against Ipswich Town.
