Bournemouth sign Rhoys Wiggins from Sheffield Wednesday

Bournemouth have announced the signing of Rhoys Wiggins from Sheffield Wednesday on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 28-year-old has previously enjoyed three different spells with the Cherries, joining them on loan twice before sealing a permanent switch in 2010.

The left-back spent just 12 months with the club before joining Charlton Athletic, however, where his performances saw him named in the 2012 League One PFA Team of the Year.

Wiggins, who is a former Wales Under-21 international, only joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer, but has seen first-team chances limited at Hillsborough, making only nine appearances for the Owls before returning to Dean Court.

"I am delighted, it's a great opportunity for me. I had a brilliant time here before, as a young lad Bournemouth was the first real competitive team I had been involved with," he told the club's official website.

"Every year we were playing for something. The first was the great escape and then the year after I was part of the promotion-winning team. I then signed permanently and we achieved what many didn't think was possible at the time, the League One playoff semi-final.

"It's really incredible to see where the club is now to where it was then. To see it now in the Premier League and to be a part of it is incredible."

Wiggins becomes the fifth player to join Bournemouth this month, following Benik Afobe, Juan Iturbe, Lewis Grabban and Marius Adamonis to Dean Court.
