Bayern Munich announce that defender Alphonso Davies is expected to be fit to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cup.

Canada have been handed a boost by the news that Alphonso Davies is expected to be fit for the upcoming World Cup.

On Saturday afternoon, the defender was forced to be withdrawn against Hertha Berlin with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

While the development comes as a blow to Bayern at a time when they are attempting to head into the mid-season break with a lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, bigger concern came with regards to the international scene.

Canada are currently preparing to play at their first World Cup since 1986 with a talented squad having been formed in recent years.

Furthermore, Davies is a key part of the group having contributed 12 goals from his 34 appearances in a Maple Leafs shirt.

Nevertheless, despite the fears over the fitness of the 22-year-old, Bayern have moved to reassure fans of the North American nation.

In a statement, Bayern said: "FC Bayern will be without Alphonso Davies for the two remaining Bundesliga games prior to the winter break.

"The 22-year-old full-back suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-2 win at Hertha BSC on Saturday.

"The diagnosis was confirmed by the German record champions' medical unit. The Canada international's participation in the World Cup in Qatar is not at risk."

While Davies appears likely to miss out on warm-up friendlies against Bahrain and Japan, head coach John Herdman will hope to have the wide player fit for the tournament in Qatar.

Canada get their campaign underway when they square off against Belgium on November 23.
