Atletico Madrid are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Barcelona to sign Antoine Griezmann on a permanent transfer.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to sign Antoine Griezmann from Barcelona on a permanent transfer.

Griezmann is currently in the second season of a two-year loan deal after returning to Atletico in 2021, but he has been the centre of a dispute between the two La Liga giants.

The Frenchman has featured in the majority of games this season after the 60th minute, as Diego Simeone's side look to avoid triggering Griezmann's buyout clause if he features in over 50% of the minutes that he is available.

Barcelona previously threatened legal action as they believed the €40m (£35m) clause was activated in the first season of the player's loan deal.

According to Matteo Moretto, the dispute is set to be resolved, with Atletico close to agreeing a fee in the region of €20m (£17.6m) to sign Griezmann on a permanent deal.

If a deal is completed, the 31-year-old should find his game time increase after starting only two of the club's 10 matches this season.

Despite being limited to mostly substitute appearances, Griezmann has still managed to score three goals and provide one assist in 10 appearances this season.
