Luis Suarez wants FIFA apology for "excessive" ban

Luis Suarez insists that FIFA's Disciplinary Committee should make an apology for handing him an unjust punishment when he bit Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has claimed that the nine-game suspension he was handed for biting an opponent was an "excessive" punishment.

The 28-year-old sunk his teeth into Giorgio Chiellini during the group stage of last year's World Cup in Brazil.

As well as being forced to sit out nine matches, Suarez was given a four-month suspension from all football-related activity, which forced him to delay his Barcelona debut.

Suarez insists that the decision taken by football governing body FIFA was unjust, and he believes that an apology should be made.

"When the Diego Godin goal went in, I didn't celebrate the way I would've done," he told Fox Sports Radio. "I realised what I had done was wrong and I knew what could happen.

"In my view, FIFA's Disciplinary Committee know my ban was excessive and at some point I'd love them to apologise and admit it was the wrong punishment, just as I admitted when I was wrong."

Suarez enjoyed an impressive maiden campaign at Camp Nou upon joining from Liverpool, scoring 25 goals in 43 appearances for the Catalan club.
