Barcelona forward Lionel Messi becomes the first player in La Liga history to hit double figures in 15 consecutive seasons with his brace in Saturday's win over Granada.

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi has set a new La Liga goalscoring record with his brace in Saturday's 4-0 win over Granada.

Amid mounting speculation over his Camp Nou future, Messi has started to hit top gear after a relatively slow start to the campaign by his standards.

The Argentine scored his 10th and 11 goals of the league season in the Blaugrana's comfortable victory over Granada at the weekend, with Antoine Griezmann also netting twice on the night.

Messi's brace means that he has now become the first player in La Liga history to hit double figures in 15 consecutive seasons, and the forward's goals have helped propel Barcelona up to third in the table.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner also broke Pele's all-time club goalscoring record with his 644th Blaugrana goal back in December, although the Brazilian's former club Santos have since disputed that claim.

Messi continues to be linked with moves to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain after entering the final six months of his deal with Ronald Koeman's side.
