Alberto Lopo equaliser shocks Atheltic Bilbao

Alberto Lopo's stoppage-time equaliser earns Deportivo La Coruna a 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.

Athletic Bilbao's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League have been dealt a blow after Alberto Lopo struck late to earn Deportivo La Coruna a 1-1 draw.

Bilbao were on top from the first whistle, and they came close to breaking the deadlock when Inaki Williams found space on the edge of the box before forcing Fabri into a fine save.

The hosts were not made to wait much longer, though, as Artiz Aduriz drifted into space to head home Aymeric Laporte's cross in the 14th minute.

Despite spending much of the first half on the back foot, Deportivo could have been level had Luisinho managed to find the target after collecting a loose ball in the box.

Bilbao dominated either side of the break, and they were inches away from a second goal when Markel Susaeta's powerful strike crept past the post.

Lopo was determined to set up a dramatic finish, but he somehow managed to head over the crossbar after being gifted space by the home defence.

The hosts quickly recovered after a nervy spell, and the lively Aduriz threatened again when his effort was tipped onto the bar by Fabri.

However, there would be one final twist in the third minute of stoppage time as Ivan Cavaleiro's ball into the box was headed home by Lopo.
