Arsenal central defender William Saliba has no intention of extending his contract with the club due to his uncertainties over game time, according to a report.

Since making the £27m move from Saint-Etienne to the Gunners back in 2019, Saliba has failed to make a senior appearance for the club.

Instead, the Frenchman has been shipped out on loan back to Ligue 1, with Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille, with the latter being where he has arguably produced his best football to date.

Saliba impressed in his 36 league appearances for Marseille during the 2021-22 campaign, helping his side to finish runners-up to Paris Saint-Germain, and as a result of his form, there has been talk of Mikel Arteta integrating him within his plans ahead of the new season.

Despite this, the defender does not wish to extend his contract with the Premier League side, according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter, via Get French Football News, which has two years left to run.

The report suggests that Saliba is keen to assess his first-team opportunities in the opening weeks of the Premier League season before making a decision on his future, with Marseille reportedly keen to secure his services once again this summer.

As a result, it is suggested that Marseille will wait until the final week of August before deciding on a move, after being hugely impressed with his performances at the club last season.

During his successful campaign in Ligue 1, Saliba was also handed his debut for the senior side for France in March, and has gone on to make five appearances for his country ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.
