Martin Odegaard 'still a priority for Arsenal'

The permanent signing of Martin Odegaard reportedly remains a priority for Arsenal, despite fears that the Real Madrid loanee could prove too expensive.

Arsenal are reportedly still prioritising a permanent deal for Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard this summer.

The Norway captain has played a starring role in the Gunners' setup since arriving in January, and Mikel Arteta is supposedly keen to keep him at the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis.

However, recent reports have suggested that Odegaard will be too expensive for Arsenal to sign, especially if they miss out on a place in Europe for the 2021-22 campaign.

The Gunners have been linked with Julian Brandt and Emiliano Buendia as possible alternatives, but football.london claims that Odegaard is still the club's top target in the number 10 role.

The report adds that Arsenal's hopes of signing Buendia have been dealt a blow with Norwich City's recent promotion back to the Premier League, and Odegaard has affirmed on multiple occasions that he is enjoying life in North London.

The Norwegian has scored two goals for the Gunners since his arrival, but he lasted just 63 minutes of their 2-1 Europa League semi-final first leg defeat to Villarreal on Thursday night.
