Arsenal 'eyeing up AS Monaco defender Marcel Tisserand'

Versatile AS Monaco defender Marcel Tisserand is wanted by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, according to a report.

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for AS Monaco ace Marcel Tisserand as their search for a new defender continues.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently admitted that he is looking to strengthen his defensive ranks before the transfer window closes following the loss of Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista to injury.

Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi is understood to be Wenger's top choice to come in, but the supposed £50m asking price is now likely to force Arsenal to look elsewhere before the August 31 deadline.

According to The Sun, Tisserand is holding out for an official approach from the North London outfit, having also been linked with a move to Espanyol in recent weeks.

Tisserand can play both at centre-back and right-back, but has been unable to hold down a starting spot at Monaco and has previously spent time on loan at Lens and Toulouse.

Jonny Evans is another potential target for Arsenal, although he is also understood to be out of Wenger's price range.
