Former Chelsea, Arsenal star William Gallas announces retirement

Former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur star William Gallas announces his retirement.

Former Premier League star William Gallas has announced his retirement from football following a 19-year career in the sport.

The 37-year-old has decided to hang up his boots in Australia following a season with A-League side Perth Glory.

The Frenchman told L'Equipe: "It is not an easy thing to announce. You always tell yourself that you can keep going, but, I think today I cannot go on any longer."

Gallas clinched two Premier League titles with Chelsea during a five-year spell at Stamford Bridge before moving on to London rivals Arsenal for four years.

The former France international ended his time in England with Arsenal's arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent three years.
