MTV reportedly decides to retool Geordie Shore as a dating show in order to freshen up the format.

MTV has reportedly decided to turn Geordie Shore into a dating show as it marks 10 years on the air.

The reality show - following a group of predominantly Newcastle-born people getting drunk on the Toon - has now run for 21 series and made household names of original stars such as Vicky Pattison, Charlotte Crosby and Gaz Beadle.

According to the Daily Mail, however, producers have now decided that the time is right to shake up the show with a new format that will see stars such as Chloe Ferry, Amelia Lily and Abby Holborn try to find a boyfriend.

Called Geordie Shore: A Shot At Love, the new show is thought to have begun filming in Newcastle earlier this month.

"Geordie Shore has been in desperate need of freshening up and bosses feel turning the format into a dating show will do just that," a source told the newspaper.

"It means there will be many more new faces thrown into the mix who are bound to cause some arguments and make great TV.

"But the tweak in format is seen as the last throw of the dice to keep the show going."

The fate of the planned 10-year reunion series, which would have seen many of the show's many cast members from over the years unite for a number of epic parties, is currently unclear.
