Former Sky owner Rupert Murdoch is reportedly considering buying a stake in BT Sport.

Former Sky owner Rupert Murdoch is reportedly mulling over whether to take a stake in BT Sport.

Earlier this year BT confirmed that it has appointed a firm to explore the sale of a stake in the BT Sport division of its business in order to enable it to instead focus investment on telecoms infrastructure.

According to a report in The Telegraph today, media mogul Murdoch's News UK - operator of The Sun, The Times and talkSPORT - has "held talks about a potential partnership" with BT in recent weeks.

The company's interest in BT comes as it looks to shore up and diversify from its struggling print business, with The Sun alone having run at a loss of over £200m last year.

ITV and Discovery are still thought to be in the running to do a deal with BT, although the most likely contender is said to be streaming service DAZN, which is aiming to shake up the sports market across Europe with a number of big-money deals.
