Sea-shanty track 'Wellerman' finally reaches number one on the UK singles chart, while Tom Grennan hits the top spot on the albums chart.

Nathan Evans's viral sea-shanty track 'Wellerman' has finally hit the top spot on the UK singles chart after seven weeks in the Top 3.

The song, which went viral on TikTok last year, ascends to the summit following its first TV performance on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway last weekend.

"We've done it! Unbelievable, I'm speechless," Evans, a former postman, told OfficialCharts.com. "Everybody's support has been absolutely fantastic, thank you each and every one of you. We made it!"

'Wellerman' ends the remarkable nine-week chart-topping reign of Olivia Rodrigo's 'Drivers License', which drops a surprising 17 places to 18 in the chart.

Another viral song, the aptly-named 'Latest Trends' from newcomers A1 & J1, zooms up 10 places to two, while KSI's collaboration with Yungblud, 'Patience', is new in at three.

Over on the albums chart, singer-songwriter Tom Grennan scores a number one with his second studio album Evering Road after chart sales of 17,000 over the week, including 73% on physical formats.

London rapper Central Cee makes an impressive debut at two with Wild West, while veteran rockers Thunder open at three with their 13th studio album All The Right Noises.
