Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has confirmed that he is now turning his attentions to the "reboot" of The X-Files.
The seminal '90s series followed FBI agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) as they explored unexplained phenomena and a deeper conspiracy of a cover-up by the US government.
The show originally ran for nine seasons between 1993 and 2002, returning for two limited seasons in 2016 and 2018.
In 2023 it emerged that Coogler was developing a new version with Anderson - and more than two years later, he has now revealed that he has started work on the project.
"I've been excited about that for a long time and I'm fired up to get back to it," he told The Last Podcast on the Left. "Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really fucking scary."
As for whether Anderson would appear on screen again as Scully, he said: "She's incredible and fingers crossed there. We're going to try to make something really great, bro, and make something for the real X-Files fans and maybe find some new ones."
A release date for the new series - as well as whether Duchovny will be involved - is currently unknown.
